Bigger IS Better!...
As a graphic designer/ web designer you are constantly worried about one thing. Size. The client would like to have it bigger… but any graphic design/ web design artist will tell you bigger is not always better. This common rule also applies to web design. One of the reasons that bigger is not always better is screen size. In a perfect world everyone would have giant displays, and many people do, in their home. But these are usually TV’s and small percentages are actually hooked up to computers. So, you are mostly limited to 17”-22” is standard displays. And with the progress of mobile web like GPS, cell phones, iPods, and media players you have to now worry about a smaller medium. Well, maybe not.
A company called Polymer Vision is creating, for commercial use, rollable displays. Essentially you could have a cell phone the size of a modern day cell phone and have any different size display. You want to view a video in widescreen, no problem just roll it out. So far the technology is just black and white, but they are working on color displays. I can’t wait to see where this is going. I want a TV that will roll out to different aspect ratios, that would be awesome. And above all else, no one would ever have to worry about size.
